Mornings – 6 things to do for a better start into the day

Mornings should be sacred. They only happen once a day and there’s hardly any other time when you can be so impartially clear in your mind and thoughts as directly after waking up.

Use this perfect opportunity to spend your morning the right way – it will give you power for the rest of the day and leave you in a good mood.

Isn’t that worth even getting up an hour early?

 


 6 Things to do for a better start into the day

1. Meditate

Close your eyes and sit in silnece for a few minutes. Think about the things you are thankful for. Think about the people you love and tell them how you feel in your thoughts. Think about the morning rays of light that tickle your nose and fuel you with energy. Don’t make plans for the day, simply sit there and open your heart for good feelings and love.

2. Yoga

Yoga is a perfect way to start the day. Unrolling and stepping on your mat is one of the best things and – I admit – hardest things to do in the morning. But a good stretch leaves you energized rather than exhausted and pushes your energy resources to a high.
If I don’t have much time,  I try to do at least a few sun salutations. After the first round I usually feel like dying. After the second it’s already better, but breathing is still hard. And after a few more rounds sometimes even suddenly a whole hour of practice happened. How great is that.

3. Exercise

Exercise also is a great way to wake up. Running, bicycling, core workout. Great for endurance and a higher energy level. It definitely wakes you up and starts your blood circulation!

4. Drink some lemon water

I start every day with a glass of lemon water, directly after waking up. Just squeeze a whole lemon into preferably warm water and if you like, add some agave juice or another sweetener of your choice. I like to add a teaspoon full of chia seeds, too – they are full of nutrients, Omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants, fiber and protein. Sounds healthy? It is, and it also tastes good.

5. Eat a healthy breakfast

It’s important to give your body the right nutritions in the morning. Your body will thank you for it! This will give you energy and will prevent cravings for sweets. Eating fat or sweet foods in the morning will just briefly raise your blood sugar level and do nothing more than make you tired after a short while.
I personally make myself a bowl of unsweetened cereals with fresh berries and drink a banana smoothie with cinnamon, matcha and cocoa powder. This makes me forget all about chocolate all day long. Alternatively I make myself a fresh green smoothie and drink some green tea. There are so many more options than fat cheese or marmelade on a bagel!

 6. Maybe the most important thing: Don’t read the news.

Skip scrolling through your social media networks, at least for the first few hours in the morning. There’s plenty of time for that later, too. Don’t read the upsetting headlines of newspapers or let the bad news on TV worry you.
Don’t let bad news, disturbing thoughts or unimportant things pollute your mind before you even made it up for yourself!
